Grace for Grace!

"Yes, we can" was a campaign slogan by former President Barack Obama. Americans of all nationalities and creeds chanted this slogan with vigor. The simple three-word chant, similar to the children's book, The Little Engine that Could's mantra "I think I can," encouraged those who felt disenfranchised and hopeless that things could be different.

The slogan resonated with so many because we all need something to make our hearts and souls feel we can have or do what our hearts truly desire. Like in The Little Engine that Could, many will refuse to assist in our moments of need. However, John testified, "And of His (Jesus) fullness, we have all received, and grace for grace" (John 1:16). We have an overflowing measure of God's love despite our faults!

Grace is not only our encouragement but also God's gift to get us from moment to moment. Grace is the forgiveness of our sins so we can walk in freedom, not guilt and shame. Grace is the blue engine getting us from one destination to the next in God's will. Grace is God's response in saving us over and over again.

David, an imperfect leader, stated in Psalms 34: 17-18, "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and save such as have a contrite spirit.

Grace is God's attentive ear. Grace says, Yes, you can! His grace is sufficient!
